    Description

    Yamato MY Nippon Bisque Head Character Baby Doll 8” Antique Rare VHTF Original . Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
    Note: The outfit is not original but is older.
    Bisque dome socket head, blue glass sleep eyes, open mouth, two porcelain upper teeth, composition and wood body, wearing cotton and lace baby romper with diaper, socks, bonnet and booties.  Marks: MY in diamond, 50/3.  Generally excellent, Circa 1918.
    Very little is known about the Yamato Importing Company of Japan who is believed to have been founded before 1917, as Foulds and Freure of New York city were apparently importing their dolls into the United States at that time.
    According to a reference source Yamato's doll mark is believed to be the initials FY or FY intertwined, with or without a mold number and usually with the word Nippon in the mark.
    The FY mark is found on bisque socket or shoulder head dolly face dolls with composition jointed or kid bodies, character dolls, solid dome head baby dolls, pouty dolls and a beautiful Oriental character doll.
    :Morimura Brothers (1876-1941) was a Japanese import house based in New York City, NY. They supplied bisque headGerman like copies of dolls to the American market and others, during World War I and after 1915-1926.They imported two basic types of bisque head dolls; Character Babies or Dolly faced dolls.They also sold celluloid dolls, Nanking (cotton body) China head dolls, composition dolls made by Bester Manufacturingand dolls made of rubber.In 1922 Morimura turned their Import Department over to theLangfelder, Homma & Hayward company, who continued to import bisque head dolls. Some markings found on Morimura dolls are: FY, MY, JW, MB, Y, MB inside circle, Nippon or Japan (the wordNippon = Japan), a mold number or Yamato.
