    Description

This beautiful doll comes from an estate collection that spans four generations.
She is a lovely vintage Mexican folk doll, made of painted composition material, jointed at shoulders and hips. Her floss hair is in braids tied with red yarn. Her face is carefully painted, and she has a shawl over her head. Her cotton dress has sequins and trim sewn on, and the clothing is not removable. Under the skirt is a crinoline type petticoat and white panties. She has red painted shoes with white stockings. She is about 13" tall overall. This doll was made for display, so the back is more roughly finished, as shown in the photos.
This doll has been carefully stored for many years. It may have minor damage consistent with age, such as minimal fading. Please review all photos as an important part of the description.
Here is some information on the provenance of the collection which may help with the age and source of the dolls. Great grandmother "Noni" was born in Scotland in the 1860's, attended the University of California at Berkeley in the 1880's, went to Europe to study for a time, and then married and returned to Princeton, New Jersey. Her sister and brother were both missionaries in China and India, and when Noni visited them she brought back souvenir dolls. Others in the family also traveled, so there is a wide variety of unusual dolls in the collection. Noni died in 1953, so we expect all dolls date prior to the early 1950's, and some are much older. The dolls were finally inherited by the great granddaughter who was born in 1947, and are offered now for your consideration.
